Violations Issued For Coronavirus Noncompliance In Kiryas Joel

KIRYAS JOEL, NY — Violations are being issued in the state-designated red zone in the village of Kiryas Joel in Orange County Tuesday.

In the coronavirus hotspot, students with backpacks were seen walking into private schools and cars jammed the parking lot at a synagogue, News 12 reported.

The violations were being given out because of orders Friday from Gov. Andrew Cuomo to close schools and nonessential businesses in red zones and restrict houses of worship to 10 people at a time. The order was for 14 days.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said, during his daily video update Tuesday, that the county reported 12,868 positive cases of the coronavirus since the beginning of the outbreak, up 168 since Friday. He said that was three days of reporting.

Of the 168, the top numbers were 48 in Palm Tree, 22 in Middletown, 14 in New Windsor, 12 in Wallkill and under 10 in the city of Newburgh.

There were 36 people in hospitals for COVID-19-related illnesses, which is down six from Friday.
