Wappingers Falls To Disband Police Department
The cost-cutting measure will have the county take over law enforcement in the village.

WAPPINGERS FALL, NY — The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office will take over law enforcement duties from the Village of Wappingers Falls police. On Wednesday, the village Board of Trustees voted 5-2 to disband the village police department.
Mayor Matt Alexander said the police budget would be reduced from $1.49 million to $906,000 due to the change, the Poughkeepsie Journal said. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)
