West Point Cadet Dies In Fall In Catskills

Police said he was hanging onto a rock ledge when a portion of it broke.

WEST POINT, NY — A student at the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School in West Point died Saturday at a popular cliff-diving site in the Catskill Mountains.

Benjamin K Bochtler, 20, a Nebraska native, fell when a rock ledge at Fawn's Leap, from which he was hanging, gave way, CNN reported.

New York State Police said they were called to investigate an accidental death in the Town of Hunter around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Fawn's Leap is along Kaaterskill Creek in Greene County. The creek has been the site of several deaths over the years.
