Winter Storm Threat: Poughkeepsie's Work Week Weather

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The sun will shine and temperatures will rise above freezing in the beginning of the work week; however, temps will drop back down after midweek. That's also when the threat of winter storms will ramp up across the East Coast.

"While one storm may deliver a swath of snow or wintry mix from the lower Midwest states to the Northeast and mid-Atlantic Thursday into Friday, concern is growing for a more significant winter storm to follow on its heels from Friday into the new weekend," said Kristina Pydynowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

Early signs show potential for substantial accumulation in the Hudson Valley, said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. However, they said, "It’s important to remember that we’re 6 days, and that a lot can change."

Here's the National Weather Service forecast for the mid-Hudson Valley:

• Monday: Sunny, with a high near 32. North wind around 6 mph.
• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. Light north wind.
• Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 33. Light and variable wind becoming northwest around 5 mph.
• Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph after midnight.
• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. West wind 5 to 13 mph.
• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 19.
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 29.
• Thursday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
• Friday: A chance of snow showers before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
• Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.
