Woman Arrested Trying To Bring Scalpels Into Prison

Authorities said her intent was to give them to an inmate at Downstate Correctional Facility.

FISHKILL, NY — State police arrested a Bronx woman who was accused of trying to bring contraband into a prison. Police charged Charisma M. Gonzalez, 19, of the Bronx, with first-degree promoting prison contraband, a felony.

An investigation found that Gonzalez had two scalpel blades in her possession when she entered the Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill as a visitor, police said.

Authorities said her intent was to give them to an inmate.

Gonzalez was arrested July 4. She was arraigned in the Village of Wappingers Falls Court and was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail or $2,500 bond.

Gonzalez is next set to appear in the Town of Fishkill Court July 10.
