Woman Stabbed By Man Who Died in Mid-Hudson Bridge Car Crash, Police Say

The man was crossing the bridge when his car went into oncoming traffic.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Police are saying the Poughkeepsie man killed in a head-on crash on the Mid-Hudson Bridge early Wednesday stabbed a Hyde Park woman in the neck.

The Poughkeepsie Journal said the 39-year-old woman is no longer in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Steven A. Vaughan, 31, of Poughkeepsie, was driving in a westbound lane of the Mid-Hudson Bridge around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday when his car crossed the dividing barrier and struck a car driven by Mark Ashby, 50 of Accord.

Both men were dead at the scene and their bodies were taken to Kingston Hospital.

A passenger in Ashby’s car was injured and taken to Westchester Medical Center.
