Woman Stopped At Airport With Loaded Weapon In Carry-On: TSA

TSA agents called the state police and the woman was detained for questioning.

NEW WINDSOR, NY — A Dutchess County woman was stopped at New York International Airport in New Windsor with a loaded handgun in her carry-on luggage Friday. The LaGrangeville woman, whose name was not released, told Transportation Security Administration officers that she had forgotten the weapon was in her bag, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

The .380 caliber handgun was loaded with seven bullets, one of which was in the chamber, MidHudson News said.

State police were notified and the woman was detained for questioning.

The handgun was confiscated.

According to the TSA website, the penalty for having a loaded firearm — or one that is unloaded with accessible ammunition — ranges from $4,100 to $10,250 plus a criminal referral.
