3-Alarm Fire Tears Through Building Near Penn Station, FDNY Says

MIDTOWN, NY — More than 100 firefighters battled a three-alarm fire Tuesday morning at a building under renovation on Seventh Avenue, the FDNY said.

The fire broke out around 3:15 a.m. at 345 Seventh Ave., a three-story, non-fireproof building near West 30th Street, according to the FDNY.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames on the building's second floor.

"Our members operated to the best of their ability—going inside, searching, opening up," Assistant Chief Michael Meyers said. "We had five handlines stretched, two tower ladders in operation, which eventually put the fire out."

The blaze escalated to a third alarm as firefighters worked for more than four hours to contain it. The fire was brought under control at approximately 7:40 a.m.

No serious injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the FDNY said.
