MIDTOWN, NY — One 27-year-old woman is dead after a Tesla driver lost control of the car and crashed into scaffolding in Manhattan early Wednesday morning, New York City Police Department officials said.
The woman accused of driving the car, 27-year-old Alejandron Paharsingh, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while ability impaired and leaving the scene of an accident on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
According to the NYPD, the chaotic scene unfolded on East 42nd Street and Madison Avenue just before 3 a.m.
The driver lost control of the car, and it crashed into scaffolding and a pole from a bus stop.
The victim, 27-year-old Elise Suomi from Harlem, was in the car during the crash.
The driver continued another four blocks east before stopping at Second Avenue.
Both the driver and Suomi were rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where Suomi succumbed to her injuries.
Nearby streets were temporarily closed during the police investigation.
