MIDTOWN, NY — Police have arrested a 17-year-old on Thursday and charged him in connection with the fatal midtown subway station shooting on Saturday, New York City Police Department officials said.
The teenager was arrested at 12:25 p.m. in Midtown and has since been charged with murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the slaying of Darrel Rodriguez, 26, from University Heights in the Bronx.
Rodriguez died after he was shot at the Seventh Avenue station near Seventh Avenue and West 53rd Street on Saturday at 12:21 p.m., according to the NYPD.
Emergency medical personnel took Rodriguez to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, an NYPD spokesperson told Patch. He later died at the hospital, police said.
The shooting prompted subway service changes at the Seventh Avenue station, and several delays and rerouted trains, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The investigation remains ongoing.
