Bobby Flay's Midtown Restaurant Bar Americain To Close, Report Says

World-famous chef Bobby Flay opened Bar Americain in 2005 and will close it in January of 2018.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Not even world-famous chefs are immune to the financial challenges that come with keeping a business alive in New York City. After more than a decade, Bobby Flay's Midtown restaurant Bar Americain is set to close in January 2018, the chef told the New York Times.

Flay decided to close the restaurant because a lease renewal and renovation would be too costly, the Times reported. Bar Americain is located inside the AXA Equitable Center on West 51st Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues.

"Like Broadway shows, restaurants have their runs,” Flay told the Times. “We’ve had a good run. But there’s no secret that it’s exorbitant to build and run a restaurant today."

The restaurant has served up American dishes such as Kentucky hot brown sandwiches, burgers, steaks and fried chicken since it opened in 2005. The Bar Americain located in the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut and Flay's other New York City restaurant Gato will remain open, the Times reported.
