Construction Worker Found Dead Inside Hell's Kitchen Elevator Shaft, Police Say

The worker's body was found at 555 10th Avenue — a new luxury apartment tower from Extell Development.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — A construction worker was found dead inside an elevator shaft of a luxury high-rise development in Hell's Kitchen, police told Patch.

Officers discovered the body of 53-year-old Steven Simpson between an elevator and a building shaft at 555 10th Avenue shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday morning, police said. Simpson was unconscious and unresponsive when found and was later pronounced dead on the scene by EMS, police told Patch.

The medical examiner's office is investigating Simpson's official cause of death, police said.

555 10th Avenue — located on the corner of West 41st Street — is a 56-story mixed use building from Extell Development. Extell — the same developers behind luxury projects such as Billionaire's Row towers One57 and Central Park Tower — claims that the 56-story development will feature ground floor retail and 598 luxury apartments, according to its website.
