Fire Breaks Out Above Midtown East Pizza Shop

A two-alarm fire broke out Thursday morning in Vezzo, a thin-crust pizza restaurant on East 31st Street and Lexington Avenue.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A two-alarm fire broke out Thursday morning in a pizza restaurant in a five-story Midtown East building, authorities said.

Fire crews responded at 11:27 a.m. to a reported fire at 130 East 31st Street. They determined the fire was burning inside Vezzo, a thin-crust pizza restaurant on the ground floor of the building at the corner of 31st and Lexington Avenue, an FDNY spokesperson said.

The fire was brought under control by 1:09 p.m., the spokesperson said. One firefighter suffered a minor injury but declined to be hospitalized.

The FDNY response forced southbound M101, M102, and M103 buses to be detoured to Second Avenue between 34th and 24th streets, the MTA announced.

As of noon Thursday, about 106 firefighters were at the scene attempting to put out the fire.
