Grammy Awards To Shut Down Midtown Streets
Trying to get around Midtown on Sunday? Avoid these streets.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The music industry's biggest stars will descend upon New York City for the Grammy Awards this weekend. It's good news for music fans, who will have plenty of opportunities to catch a glimpse of their favorite performers, but for anyone traveling in the area of Madison Square Garden, it's going to be a nightmare.
The City Department of Transportation and NYPD will be shutting down a number of streets near the Midtown venue for security purposes Sunday.
The following streets will be closed, according to the DOT:

- Area bounded by 34th Street on the North, 8th Avenue on the West
- 28th Street on the South, 7th Avenue on the East (All inclusive)
- 7th Avenue between 34th Street and 42nd Street
- 34th Street between 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue
- 33rd Street between 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue
- 32nd Street between 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue
- 31th Street between 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue
The Grammy Awards are returning to New York City after 15 straight years in Los Angeles. Last year, Mayor Bill de Blasio predicted that the award ceremony could bring in $600 million for the city and local businesses.
"Look these things have gotten bigger and bigger, you know these major, major events and that's why the projected economic impact is $600 million dollars," de Blasio said during an appearance on WCBS 880. "This is fantastic for New York City and it will showcase all we have to the world."

If you're interested in watching the show, it will be broadcast live on CBS starting at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. For those without access to cable, the awards ceremony can be streamed live through CBS's website and its android/iOS app.
