Man Killed By Car Crossing Times Square Street

A 69-year-old man died last week after an SUV driver hit him in a crosswalk in Times Square, police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A man was struck and killed by an SUV while crossing a street in Times Square last week, police said Thursday.

Around 12:40 a.m. on Sept. 24, the man was crossing to the east side of 7th Avenue at 43rd Street when a 41-year-old man driving a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder SUV turned left onto 7th from 43rd Street. Both men had the light in their favor, Streetsblog reported.

Police identified the pedestrian as 69-year-old Richard G. Brode, a West Village resident.

The SUV struck Brode in the intersection and knocked him to the ground, police said. Police responded and found Brode lying in the roadway, unresponsive and suffering from head trauma.

Brode was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he died the following day, police said.

The SUV driver, who police have not identified, stayed at the scene and has not been charged. An investigation is ongoing, police said.
