Man Killed After Falling Out Of Taxi In Midtown

A man was killed in Midtown early Tuesday after trying to enter a taxi through the driver's window and then falling out, police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A man was killed early Tuesday when he attempted to enter a yellow taxi through the driver's side window and then fell out as the car was moving, police said.

Police responded around 4:02 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian hit at the intersection of 7th Avenue and West 44th Street.

According to police, the victim, Edgar Castillo, 47, a Washington Heights resident, had tried to enter the cab through the driver's window at 44th and 7th. The taxi drove south on 7th with Castillo partially inside the car, before falling to the pavement, police said.

He was taken to Roosevelt Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The taxi fled south on 7th Avenue, according to police, and an investigation is ongoing.
