Midtown's 21 Club Shuts Down After Pipes Burst

The high-end Midtown restaurant suffered "significant damage" and will reopen in February.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Old-school Midtown Manhattan favorite the 21 Club has shut down for the month after pipes in the restaurant burst, the restaurant's general manager Theodore V. Suric said in a statement.

The West 52nd Street hotspot suffered "significant damage" throughout the restaurant when pipes burst due to the recent cold weather, the managed said in a statement.

"2018 is starting off with a bit of adventure here at '21'. As a result of the unprecedented temperatures this week, several pipes have ruptured causing significant damage throughout the property," Suric's statement reads.

The majority of the restaurant's famous decor, including artworks and other "special treasures," survived unscathed, the general manager said. Most of the water damage was suffered in the restaurant's central stairwell and chunks of the ceiling collapsed, the restaurant’s director of marketing Avery Fletcher told Eater New York.

The 21 Club — which is located between Fifth and Sixth avenues — is expected to reopen sometime in early February, according to the restaurant's statement. The main restaurant is expected to reopen a few weeks before the refurbished private rooms and wine cellar are completed, according to the statement.
