NYU Student Raped by Man She Thought was Cab Driver

It's uncertain whether the vehicle was a cab or a regular vehicle, police said.

MIDTOWN, NY — A 21-year-old NYU student was sexually assaulted on Saturday night, the NYPD said.

The female victim left a bar on the east side and hailed what she believed was a cab on 33rd Street in Midtown. Police say it's now uncertain whether the van she got into was a cab or a regular vehicle posing as a taxi. The woman could not remember what the vehicle looked like, police said.

The driver took the victim to an unknown spot and forced her to perform sexual acts on him. He then raped her and hit her in the face, police said.
