PHOTOS: New Penn Station Concourse Opens To Public
The first phase of the Moynihan/Farley Penn Station expansion is complete, providing commuters with an extended western concourse.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — There's not much good news for Penn Station commuters these days. Increasingly poor service into the station on the Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit and Amtrak and an upcoming "summer of hell" are a nightmare.
But at least the station looks a little nicer as of Thursday.
A new western concourse for Penn Station opened to the public Thursday, featuring crisp architecture, modern design and mellow, blue-hued lighting. The new concourse is part of the first phase in the Moynihan Train Hall expansion, which will convert the Farley Post Office building on Eighth Avenue into a mixed-use development featuring a brand-new transit facility.

The finished station, which will feature new concourses, tracks, restaurants and retail space, is expected to open in 2020.
The new concourse allows commuters to enter and exit penn station from the opposite of Eighth Avenue via stairwells at the corners of the Farley Post Office building.
