Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Topped With 550-Pound Swarovski Crystal Star

The star is made up of 25,000 Swarovski crystals and one million facets.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A 9.5-foot, 550-pound Swarovski crystal star was placed on top of the Rockefeller Center's iconic Christmas tree Wednesday morning, officially marking the start of the holiday season in New York City.

The star, which is filled with 25,000 Swarovski crystals and has one million facets, had to be lifted to the treetop by a construction crane, according to NBC New York.

This year's 94-foot-tall Norway spruce is the second-largest Christmas tree to ever be erected inside the Rockefeller Center, in the 84 years since the tradition began.
