Rockefeller Center Ice Rink Opens For Winter

The ice rink at Rockefeller Center held its annual grand reopening ceremony Wednesday.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Summer weather may be sticking around, but a New York City winter staple celebrated its grand reopening for the season Wednesday.

The ice rink at Rockefeller Center reopened to much fanfare Wednesday morning. The reopening ceremony featured a performance from 2014 Olympic ice dancing gold medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

Skating at Rockefeller Center is one of New York City's biggest tourist draws. The rink holds about 150 people at a time and is usually jam-packed during the winter. The warm fall season could reduce the number of people on the ice — so if you want to skate at Rockefeller Center without dodging 100 tourists now might be a good time to visit the attraction.

The rink is open to both general admission skating as well as reservations, according to Rockefeller Center's website. The rink is open to the public daily from 8:30 a.m. to midnight every day until the new year, with the exception of Dec. 28 and 29 when the rink is closed. General admission rates apply for a one-and-a-half hour skating session.
