A witness told Patch that "People were stunned and laughing. It was surreal."
HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — After a short chase down the streets of Manhattan's west side, police were able to corral a runaway horse in Midtown, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.
The horse, which had been running loose on Ninth Avenue, was eventually caught by police on 12th Avenue near West 52nd Street a little before 5:30 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.
Witness Chuck Armstrong said he saw the horse being chased by three or four cop cars while standing on the corner of Ninth Avenue between West 52nd and 53rd streets.

"I noticed a horse carriage trotting down 9th Ave, which wasn't that out of place," Armstrong told Patch. "And then about a minute later this horse with no saddle was running down the street. It was absolutely clear he was loose."

Armstrong said that the horse appeared to be weaving in between cars on Ninth Avenue. At one point, the carriage driver managed to bring the horse to a stop on the corner of Ninth Avenue and West 52nd street, but it took off again when cops approached it, Amstrong told Patch.
