Target To Open Store In Herald Square

The small-format store will offer customers the ability to order products online and pick them up at the store.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Mega-retailer Target will open its third Manhattan store, located in a bustling section of Herald Square, in October, the company announced Monday in a press release.

The 43,000-square-foot store (considered "small-format" for Target) will be located on West 34th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue, according to a press release. The location, located one block from Penn Station, is currently home to many other big box retailers such as Foot Locker, Old Navy and Macy's.

Target's first Midtown Manhattan store will be two stories and will offer products "tailored to meet the needs of local guests," according to a press release. The "small-format" store concept is being pushed by Target as it expands from the suburbs into dense urban neighborhoods, according to the release.

"The addition of the Herald Square store location is exciting for Target as we expand our footprint with small-format stores in Manhattan," Mark Schindele, a Target executive, said in a statement. "Not only will we be able to serve the thousands of working professionals that travel through Herald Square each day, but we’ll have the opportunity to showcase Target’s exclusive brands and compelling offers for the many tourists from around the world who shop in this vibrant neighborhood in Manhattan."

The new store will also offer an order pickup service that allows shoppers to purchase products online and pick them up at the store, according to the press release. Target currently operates two stores in Manhattan, located in Harlem and Tribeca, and is planning to expand into the East Village and Hell's Kitchen.
