Stuck Truck Forces Queens-Midtown Tunnel To Be Shut Down, Officials Say

An oversized tractor-trailer tried to enter the Queens-Midtown Tunnel Thursday morning and got stuck, blocking traffic in both directions.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — An ambitious truck driver caused a mess at the Queens-Midtown Tunnel early Thursday morning when an oversized tractor-trailer got jammed in the tunnel's entrance, stalling traffic for about an hour, officials told Patch.

The oversized vehicle became jammed in the Manhattan entrance of the tunnel's north tube around 1:30 a.m., an MTA spokesman confirmed with Patch. The north tube was completely shut down and traffic was re-routed to the tunnel's south tube as crews attempted to clear the obstruction, the spokesman said.

Around 2:30 a.m. the truck was removed and traffic in the Queens-Midtown Tunnel's north tube was restored, an MTA spokesman told Patch.
