Trump Rally Lands 3 Protesters In Handcuffs, Police Say

Three people were taken into police custody during a protest outside the Trump International Hotel and Tower, police said.

NEW YORK CITY -- Three people were arrested outside the Trump International Hotel Friday evening during a protest against the president and his declaration of a national emergency to fund an $8 billion border wall.

Three people were put in handcuffs outside the hotel on Columbus Circle on Central Park West and West 61st Street some time after 6 p.m., police said.

More information about where those people were taken and what charges they would face wasn't immediately available.

Protesters posted photos and videos of the rally and arrest on Twitter.

Advocacy group Rise and Resist organized the protest hours after President Trump announced he would commit $8 billion on border barriers with an order declaring a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border.

"It is essential that the resistance have a quick and powerful response," organizers wrote on Facebook. "Silence is not an option."

While police told Patch three people had been arrested as of 6:30 p.m., Rise and Resist organizers estimated it was more like 15.
