Trump Tower Hit With NYC Buildings Violation

The Department of Housing Preservation and Development has issued a violation against Trump Tower for failing to register with the city.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Being the president of the United States isn't easy, and Donald Trump is figuring that out the hard way. His self-proclaimed "Muslim ban" has been overturned in federal court twice, Republicans and Democrats alike have panned the Obamacare replacement plan and, perhaps most devastatingly, the Trump Organization is facing a possible $500 fine for failing to properly register Trump Tower with New York City.

It appears that Trump Tower, the crown jewel of Trump's real estate holdings and the residence of First Lady Melania Trump and First Son Barron Trump, has been issued a violation by the city Department of Housing Preservation and Development. A spokeswoman for the department confirmed with Patch that Trump Tower's registration expired in September and the building was issued the violation in October.

The resistance is alive.

As a result of the "class I" violation, Trump is subject to a $500 fine, prohibited from certifying other violations and denied the right to recover possession for nonpayment of rent, according to the HPD website. All residential properties with three or more apartment units are required to register with HPD.

The 58-story building, located on Fifth Avenue between East 57th and 56th streets, was last registered with HPD in July of 2015. Trump Tower contains 251 apartment units, according to city records. No other HPD violations have been issued against Trump Tower, according to records.

Richie Ukaj and Sonia Talesnik are both listed as the building officers for Trump Tower, according to HPD records. LinkedIn pages for both confirm that they work at the Trump Organization but otherwise provide no details.

A message left with the Trump Organization was not immediately returned.
