1 Dead, 1 Hurt in Head-On Crash in Rocky Point

The crash occurred Tuesday morning, police say.

ROCKY POINT, NY - A 55-year-old man was killed and another man was injured in a head-on crash in Rocky Point Tuesday morning, police said.

According to police, 25-year-old Sean Carpenter, of Medford, was driving a 2002 Subaru Outback south on County Road 21, about a mile north of Whiskey Road, when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a 1991 Nissan Sentra, driven by Jose Amaya.

Amaya, of Medford, was pronounced dead at the scene. Carpenter was transported via the Rocky Point Fire Department to Stony Brook University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.
