Edgar School Students Have 'Bulldog Debate'
Fourth graders in Patricia Alberti's class at Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School are learning about the history of the bulldog.

A lively discussion of pets took place among fourth graders in Patricia Alberti’s class at Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School that turned to learning the history of the small-statured, courageous bulldog. Originally bred for working with bulls in England hundreds of years ago, the students listed the pros and cons of breeding bulldogs and if the practice should be continued.

Several students cited the cuteness of the dogs and the warmth they provide but noted that they have often have difficulties breathing, running and swimming. Student Elena Maher pointed out that treatment by veterinarians can help them breathe better so they can lead happy lives.
