An Ice Party, Reminiscent of Tea: Protesters To Dump Ice, Not Tea, Into LI Sound Challenging Policies

"Join the New York East End ICE Party! Tea was once dumped in protest, now we dump ice!"

MOUNT SINAI, NY — Forget the Boston Tea Party.

Protesters will literally dump ice in the water this weekend to challenge Immigration and Customs Enforcement's policies.

They plan a rally against ICE on Sunday afternoon at the fishing pier in Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai, according to mobilize.us.

"Join the New York East End ICE Party!" the post read. "Tea was once dumped in protest, now we dump ice!"

"Today, a president who behaves like a king occupies the White House. He has sent ICE to harass our cities, to murder and kidnap our friends, families, and neighbors. Let us rise once more to take down tyranny," the post reads.

In 1773, the colonists in Boston dumped tea in Boston Harbor to protest taxation without representation that they believed they were subjected to under the British crown.

Organizers of Sunday's protest are encouraging participants to bring a bag of ice or two, adding, "We will march to the end of the Mt. Sinai pier and dump the ice in."

The rally will follow the march.

"Hopefully, the weather is better this time," the post reads.

In a disclaimer at the bottom of the post, organizers advise participants not to engage with hecklers, bystanders, agitators, negative people in cars.

"You must always de-escalate, leave space between you and/or walk away. We cannot get baited into responding violently. NO matter the provocation," their post states.

The disclaimer concludes with: "A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values."

A similar rally was held last Thursday in Medford to protest the death of Alex Pretti in Minnesota.

When asked if police officers would be present at Sunday's rally, the Suffolk County Police Department's Public Information Bureau released the same statement: "As with any demonstration or public gathering planned in Suffolk County, the department will adjust its resources as needed to ensure the safety of all residents."
