Legislator Anker Attends Annual Pine Barrens Research Forum

Upton, N.Y. –Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker attended the 20th Annual Pine Barrens Research Forum on Thursday, October 1st. The event was held at Brookhaven National Lab and provided meaningful and relevant information based on the latest scientific research related to the natural resources of the Central Pine Barrens.

“The Pine Barrens Research Forum is an important event that can help us learn a great deal about how to further protect and preserve our natural areas,” said Legislator Anker. “As my district includes a great portion of the Central Pine Barrens and some of its most important protected public open spaces, the Research Forum provided an opportunity to explore additional measures to further environmental protection.”

During the Pine Barrens Research Forum, Legislator Anker had the opportunity to meet with John Pavacic, Executive Director of the Central Pine Barrens Joint Planning and Policy Commission, the chief sponsor of the Forum, to discuss the day’s presentations and the work currently underway at the Commission.

Mr. Pavacic stated, “I am grateful that Legislator Anker took the time to support and participate in the Commission’s Research Forum. I had the opportunity to discuss a number of Commission initiatives with Legislator Anker and look forward to further discussion on ways the Commission could collaborate with her office on several current projects, including habitat restorations utilizing native plantings and efforts to support local firefighter training and safety in regard to wildfire and brush fire response.”
