Legislator Anker Honors Eagle Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 204

MOUNT SINAI, NY – On Saturday, March 24th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker attended an Eagle Scout Ceremony at Miller Place High School to honor Troop 204’s newest Eagle Scouts, Peter Ian Martin and Thomas Charles Barry Jr. Legislator Anker was joined by a number of guests including Scoutmaster Joseph Argento, Assistant Scoutmaster Keith Furio, and Councilwoman Jane Bonner pictured above.

“The hard work and dedication of local scouts is a vital asset to our community. Through their hard work, dedication, and commitment to scouting, Peter and Thomas have proven themselves to be extraordinary leaders. Their Eagle Scout accomplishments will set examples for the younger scouts in Troop 204. I congratulate Peter and Thomas and wish them continued success in their future endeavors,” said Legislator Anker.

Peter Ian Martin’s community service project involved repairing and refurbishing two Miller Place town welcome signs. Thomas Charles Barry Jr. constructed a wooden structure over an outdoor marine life touch tank at the Mount Sinai Nature Center at Cedar Beach. The touch tank, which is part of the educational program at the Nature Center, was previously unusable because the amount of sunlight it received made it an unhealthy environment for sea life. The wooden structure Thomas built now allows the tank to be used and enjoyed.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank that a scout can receive and requires the scout to earn 21 merit badges, complete a community service project, and undergo a lengthy review process.
