Legislator Anker to Host Narcan Training Classes

Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker will host two Narcan Training Classes this summer.

SHOREHAM and CORAM, NY – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker, in conjunction with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and the Shoreham and Coram Civic Associations, will host two Narcan Training Classes this summer. The “Opioid Overdose Prevention Program and Narcan Training Class,” which meets the NYS Department of Health requirements, will train participants to recognize an opioid overdose, to administer intranasal Narcan, and what steps to take until EMS arrives during an emergency situation. Classes will be held on Wednesday, June 20, at 7:30 pm at Miller Avenue Elementary School, 3 Miller Avenue in Shoreham, and on Monday, July 23, at 7:30 pm at the Old Coram Fire Department, 303 Middle Country Road in Coram. Only one class is required.

“There is a heroin and opiate epidemic that is plaguing Suffolk County,” said Legislator Anker. “One of the measures that we can take as citizens is to be prepared in case of an emergency. Through the Narcan Training Class, participants will be given the tools and the knowledge they need to respond quickly to save a life.”

Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive a certificate and an emergency resuscitation kit that includes Narcan. Advanced registration for the class is required. To register, or to receive additional information, please call Legislator Anker’s office at 631-854-1600.
