Miller Place Woman Arrested For DWI After Crash Seriously Injures Passenger
BREAKING: The 22-year-old was drunk when she crashed into pole Sunday night. Another 22-year-old woman was seriously hurt in the crash.
A 22-year-old Miller Place woman is charged with DWI and vehicular assault after a crash in Nassau County that seriously injured her passenger Sunday night, police said.
According to Nassau Police, Jessica Coleman was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty east on Merrick Road when she drove off the roadway and hit a utility pole in front of 200 Merrick Road in Freeport at about 8:50 p.m.
A 22-year-old woman who was not wearing a seatbelt in the backseat was thrown into the rear cargo area by the impact of the crash, police said. She suffered a severe head injury and is listed in serious condition in the hospital. Police did not release her name.

Freeport Police responded to the crash scene and determined that Coleman, who sustained minor abrasions, to be intoxicated, police said.
Coleman is charged with DWI and second degree vehicular assault. She will be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
