Motorcyclist Critically Injured, Driver Charged With DWI in Mount Sinai Crash
The crash occurred Sunday afternoon, police say.

MOUNT SINAI, NY - A Rocky Point man is charged with DWI following a crash that critically injured a motorcyclist from Mount Sinai on Sunday afternoon.
According to police, 60-year-old Ronald Starke was traveling east on North Country Road near Mountain Ridge Drive on a 2003 Indian motorcycle in Mount Sinai when he was struck by a westbound 2002 Subaru Outback operated by Yokito Yoneyama at about 3:55 p.m.
Starke was transported via Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is in critical condition, police said.
The motorcyclist lost a leg in the accident. A nurse was on scene and another person helped apply a tourniquet, a source told Patch.
Yoneyama, 36, was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He was arrested and charged with DWI.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to contact the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
