UPDATE: Police ID Pedestrian Fatally Struck by SUV in Rocky Point
The man was attempting to cross Route 25A last week when he was hit, police say.
UPDATE Monday 1 p.m: Police have identified the person who was killed as 27-year-old Alejandro Chamale Cubule, of Rocky Point.

A man was struck and killed by an SUV while he was trying to cross Route 25A in Rocky Point late Thursday night.

According to police, the man was attempting to cross just east of Rocky Point Yaphank Road when he was struck by a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe that was heading east on Route 25A at about 11:35 p.m.
The driver, a 27-year-old Rocky Point man, remained at the scene. The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of family, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
