The tradition started at the school in 1999 and has raised thousands of dollars for the fund. Organized by fourth grade teacher Allison Licata, with participation from all fourth grade classes, each student fashioned individual scarecrows, stuffed with straw and love. Each was unique with its colorful clothing and decorations, and the finished works of art were placed on display in the hall outside the classrooms. Students and staff were invited to visit the scarecrow patch and vote for their favorite one by donating coins.
