Rocky Point Community Mull Watch Group After 80% Crime Spike: Report
Concerned residents packed the VFW Hall on Tuesday to hear an update from Suffolk police, News 12 reported.

ROCKY POINT, NY — A group of Rocky Point residents are considering the formation of a community watch group after a recent crime spike, News 12 reported.
Matthew McCormick of the Seventh Precinct talked to a large crowd of concerned residents at a meeting of the Rocky Point Civic Association on Tuesday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He said crime increased by about 80 percent, according to the outlet's video footage.
A Suffolk police spokesman clarified the statement on Wednesday, saying that thefts increased in the area, referring to them as "crimes of opportunity," with many involving thefts from unlocked cars.
