Rocky Point Drive-In [Empty in Rocky Point]

What do you want to see on the former iconic site?

When the Rocky Point Drive-In opened in June of 1961 the site became an icon of Rocky Point. It remained a popular destination for 27 years until 1988, where being one of the few drive in move theaters on Long Island wasn't enough to keep the business open.

During the 90's the site would be redeveloped as a golf driving range, though that enterprise would only last for a few years. In the decade-plus since then, there's been nothing.

Today the site is blighted. Most of the marquee is rusted, the driving range sign is nearly off, revealing the old drive in sign underneath. The road has been blocked off for years, leaving it to be a prime target for graffitti artists.

There is a facebook page dedicated to bringing back the drive-in and online petitions clamor for the opportunity. Could a drive in survive the current economic climate while staying open only for the fair weather months?
