Two Rocky Point High School student-athletes were recently recognized by Councilwoman Jane Bonner. Seniors Gianna Amendola and Alexandra Kelly each received a proclamation from Bonner, highlighting their significant achievements as part of the Rocky Point Eagles athletic teams.

Gianna served as captain from 2020-22 of the Rocky Point boys and girls wrestling teams. She is a pioneer in the movement to have girls wrestling become a high school sport. She has never lost a match on Long Island in the girls wrestling division and has 37 career varsity wins against boys. She is the Long Island girls champion in 2022, Suffolk County champion in 2020 and 2022 and placed fourth in the Eastern States Championship for wrestling in 2020. In varsity girls soccer she is an All-East Regional Player, Suffolk County Division 2 Player of the Year and led Long Island with 34 goals.

Alexandra is a New York State Public High School Athletic Association indoor track and field state champion in the triple jump. She placed third in the long jump at the New Balance Indoor Nationals and was named All-American with a fifth-place spot in the triple jump. Alexandra was named an Island Federal Scholar-Athlete honoree and has a place in Island Federal’s Watch List, in which she will be a finalist for the 2022 Scholar-Athlete scholarships awarded in June. Alexandra is noted as a multisport phenomenon and a stellar academic student. In fall 2021, she tallied 29 total points on the pitch for Rocky Point girls soccer including the game-winner over previously undefeated East Islip. Currently, she has a 101.66 GPA and will attend Princeton University next year as a member of its track and field team.
