Rocky Point High School’s Virtual Enterprise class attended a leadership conference at Long Island University. Along with teacher Ms. Dorothy Burns, students were welcomed by Chuck Garcia, dean of LIU’s School of Business, with an introduction on leadership. Students then moved to breakout rooms where they spoke with industry professionals about leadership in their respective departments within Virtual Enterprise: Operations and IT, Executives, and Finance.

The students then competed in a Leadership Challenge where small groups were given a departmental specific, problematic scenario. Each group had to come up with a presentation or skit that solved the problem. The top group in each breakout room moved to the final round and presented their skit on the main stage in front of all other Virtual Enterprise students, teachers and a panel of judges.

Rocky Point students moved into the final rounds of this competition. Although the competition was ultimately won by a subsequent group, the students’ experience was memorable and inspiring. Everyone was impressed by their professionalism, active participation and creativity during the day’s events.
