“Writing to Pen Pals has our students practicing their writing skills and organizing their thoughts onto paper,” Mrs. Vieira said. “They are writing for a real purpose and a real audience.”

Mrs. Vieira added that having a pen pal promotes many key skills, including reciprocation, patience, empathy and mutual concern. It also fosters the ability to search for and find common bonds, a key element of true friendship.

“This is a fabulous project and have the kids so excited,” she said.
