Rocky Point Woman Fatally Struck by Minivan

A Rocky Point woman was struck and killed by a minivan in Rocky Point on Saturday evening.

A 21-year-old Miller Place man was driving a 2000 Chrysler Voyager north on Hallock Landing Road, near 3rd Avenue, at about 6:13 p.m. when the minivan struck a pedestrian who had walked into the lane of travel, police said.

The pedestrian, 49-year-old Theresa Swedberg was transported via Rocky Point Fire Department ambulance to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where she was pronounced dead. The driver was not hurt. No criminal charges have been filed.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
