LI Woman Kept Puppy In Metal Crate Outside: Suffolk Police
The 10-month-old female dog could not stand up, turn around, or lay down, police said.
RIDGE, NY — A Long Island woman was found keeping a 10-month-old puppy inside of a metal crate outdoors — in such confined quarters that it prevented the animal from standing, turning around, or laying down, Suffolk police said.
Brookhaven Town Animal Rescue investigated a complaint on Oct. 16 that Altanasia Warren, 25, of Ridge had been keeping the mixed-breed female dog's paws covered in feces, its underbelly stained with urine, and they took it from her, police said.
The 7th Precinct's Crime Section took over the investigation and charged Warren with torturing, injuring, and or not feeding an animal, a misdemeanor, and not providing appropriate shelter for a dog, a violation, under the state's agriculture and markets law on Jan. 13.
