Senior leadership redeems SWR Lax with a win over Bayport-Blue Pt
13-8 win brings SWR to 2-1 on their season
After coming off a tough loss to Mount Sinai on Wednesday April 4, Shoreham-Wading River Boys Varsity Lacrosse redeemed themselves after a big day from sophomore attacker and North Carolina commit, Xavier Arline and senior Geneseo commit, Zach Colucci. Arline’s eight-point day with four assists and four goals was too much for the Phantoms to handle. Shoreham-Wading River went on to win 13-8 and secured their second win of the year and is now 2-1 on their season.
Assistant Coach Brian Baker was very pleased with the victory, especially from his seniors.“Senior leadership stepped up big time,” Baker said. “We had some highs and lows but the boys responded well. We actually played lacrosse together as a team.” Seniors Zach Colucci and Kyle Boden had two or more goals for the Wildcats. They combined for eight of their 13 goals.
Shoreham-Wading River got out to an early 3-0 lead in just a little over seven minutes of action. Kyle Boden was sprinting in the open field and scored in the first minute. Zach Colucci scored five minutes later assisted by Arline who then had three unassisted goals to give the Wildcats at 5-1 advantage going into the second quarter.

Bayport-Blue Point cut the deficit to 6-4 with an assist and goal from senior midfielder, Tim Sacca but that’s the closest the Phantoms would get with 6:08 left in the second quarter. The Wildcats retaliated with two unanswered goals to increase their deficit back to four with the next goal coming from Arline assisted from a winning faceoff by Geneseo bound, Michael Wood.
“My team goals at the end of the day is to just help the team win as much as possible,” Arline said. “The team played as a unit today. I think everyone played their role. The producers produced and they made plays.”

The Phantoms scored with four seconds left on a contested shot make by Sacca assisted by Shane Santora. However, they couldn’t get stops on defense and took one step forward and then two steps back when the Wildcats scored three times in the third quarter while the Phantoms only scored one. Tim Cairo assisted on two of the three goals in the third.
Arline assisted the Wildcats’ final two goals from Colucci and Boden to give them a 13-6, their largest lead of the game. Bayport-Blue responded with two unassisted goals by junior midfielder James Ringer and senior attacker Sal Locascio but it was too little too late for a comeback.
SWR Sophomore Goalie, Liam Daly had 11 saves.
