Shoreham Man Dies After Fleeing Accident, Crashing Into Tree: Police
The 50-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 50-year-old Shoreham man died after he crashed into a tree while fleeing the scene of an accident in Brentwood Sunday afternoon, police said.
According to police, Anthony Lapicola was backing his 2010 Toyota RAV4 out of a driveway on Candlewood Road in around 4:45 p.m. when he struck a 2005 BMW that was traveling east on Candlewood Road.
Lapicola fled the scene and headed north on Bishop Road, but he crashed his vehicle into a tree a short distance away at the intersection of Bishop Road and 9th Avenue, police said.

Lapicola was transported via Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of BMW was not injured in the initial crash, police said.
The Toyota was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
