Shoreham Village Deer Forum

SHOREHAM, N.Y. – On Sunday, December 2nd, Suffolk County Legislators Sarah Anker and Bridget Fleming attended the Shoreham Village Deer Forum, an educational meeting designed to inform attendees about Long Island’s increasing deer population. Topics discussed at the forum included why deer overpopulation is a problem, and the correlation between the spreading of tick-borne diseases.
“The rising deer and tick population has become a serious problem on Long Island, especially on the east end,” said Legislator Anker. “Forums like this are necessary for keeping the public educated and safe.”

Presentations were made by Suffolk County Health Department Laboratory Chief Dr. Scott Campbell, Brookhaven National Lab (BNL) Natural Resource Manager Dr. Tim Green, BNL Associate Laboratory Director for Environment, Safety & Health Gail Mattson, and Central Pine Barrens Joint Planning & Policy Commission Executive Director John Pavacic.
