Sound Beach Man Charged With DWI in Crash That Topples Utility Pole

Man charged with DWI after his car hits pole, sending it crashing down onto another vehicle Friday night in Port Jefferson Station.

A Sound Beach man is charged with DWI after he crashed his car into a utility pole Friday night, sending the pole crashing down onto another vehicle in Port Jefferson Station, police said.

The crash occurred around 8:38 p.m. in front of Full Gospel Christian Center at 415 Old Town Road, north of Arrowhead Lane. The male driver of the vehicle that was struck by the pole was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the pole, Clint Drolet, 31, was arrested and charged with DWI, police said.

The crash, which also toppled a transformer, knocked out power to nearly 1,000 residents in the area. Those outages have since been restored.
