Stranded Jet Skier Rescued From Long Island Sound: Suffolk Police
The 60-year-old Rocky Point man was trying to swim back to shore when officers found him, police said.
ROCKY POINT, NY — A Jet Ski operator was rescued after being stranded for about three hours on Long Island Sound Wednesday night, Suffolk County police said.
The United States Coast Guard notified police at about 6:30 p.m. that a friend of Douglas Gordon, 60, of Rocky Point, reported he was over three hours overdue to return to Rocky Point, police said.
A police helicopter was brought in about 20 minutes later at 6:55 p.m., police said, adding that officers found the 1991 Jet Ski “floating in the water with no occupant.”

Officers Michael Malone and Shawn Mooney, who were on board Marine Delta, responded to the area about five minutes later and discovered Gordon about one-quarter of a mile away from the disabled Jet Ski and just about three-quarters of a mile offshore, police said.
Gordon was wearing a life jacket and was trying to swim to shore, according to police. He was taken on board, and when he was transported back to shore, he refused medical attention, police said.
