Students Find Commonalities Between Rocky Point And Alaska
Students at Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School are participating in the United States Post Office's Pen Pal Project.

Did you know that there are no professional sports teams in Alaska? That was one of the facts that Rocky Point fifth graders found out from their new friends in Anchorage, Alaska.

Students in Mark Yashowitz’s class at Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School are participating in the United States Post Office’s Pen Pal Project and are gaining insight into daily life for students who see mountain ranges as part of their skyline view.
For fun, they like to fish and a favorite food is pizza, according to student Jake Lulenski. His classmates added that marshmallows top that list. The students discovered that pets are favored in both places. They also learned that Alaskan students attend the same school building from kindergarten through grade 12 and that they finish the school year in May.

“Our class would like you to know that being a pen pal is super important,” Jaelee Perez said. “We get to communicate with people from different places.”
