Three Suffolk Beaches Remain Closed Due To Bacteria
They were closed to bathing after the health department found bacteria at levels were in excess of acceptable criteria.
ROCKY POINT, NY —Three Suffolk beaches across the north and south shores remain closed to bathing after the health department found bacteria at levels were in excess of acceptable criteria.
Tides Beach in Rocky Point closed on Wednesday, while Bayport Beach and Tanner Park Beach in Copiague closed earlier in the week. The beaches will reopen once further testing finds the bacteria has reached an acceptable level.
County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott said bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
